Questions

What parents ask us most.

Admissions, fees, the school day and languages. If yours isn't here, the office answers within a day.

Admissions

When can my child start?

Most children start in August or January. If there's a place in their year group, they can join at any point in the year after a short settling-in plan with the class teacher.

Is there a waiting list?

Early years and Year 1 usually have one. We keep it in the order applications arrive, with siblings and children of staff first. We'll tell you honestly where you stand.

Do you test children before they join?

Not the youngest. Early years children come for a play morning. From Year 3 up, children spend a day in class and do a short, relaxed reading and maths check so we know where to start.

Can we apply from abroad?

Yes. About a third of our families move to Denmark from elsewhere. We can hold the meeting on a video call and help with the paperwork for the kommune.

Fees and bursaries

What do the fees include?

Lessons, lunch, most clubs, books, school trips in Denmark and the Year 3 to Year 9 camp weeks. Swimming, climbing and instrument lessons are extra.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes. The second child gets 10% off and the third and any after get 20% off, for as long as they're at Vanta together.

Who can apply for a bursary?

Any family, at any point. Bursaries cover between 20% and 100% of the fees and are decided by the bursar, separately from admissions. Asking never affects a place.

Can we pay monthly?

Fees are paid monthly over eleven months, from August to June, by direct debit. You can also pay each term or the full year in advance.

The school day

What are the school hours?

Doors open at 08:00 with breakfast in the hall. Lessons run from 08:30 to 15:00, and clubs run until 17:00. Early years finishes at 14:30.

Is lunch included?

Yes. It's cooked in our kitchen every morning and eaten together. We cater for allergies, vegetarian and halal diets; tell us on the application form.

Do children go outside every day?

Every class spends part of each day in the wood or by the lake, whatever the weather. Bring waterproofs and a change of socks.

How much homework is there?

None in Early years, reading at home in Primary, and up to an hour a night in Secondary, rising before exams.

Languages

Which languages are taught in?

Danish and English, side by side. Children hear both from Early years and read and write in both by the end of Primary.

My child doesn't speak Danish. Is that a problem?

No. Many children arrive with one of the two languages, or neither. They get extra language lessons in small groups until they're comfortable, usually within a year.

Do you teach other languages?

German or French from Year 5, and Spanish as an option from Year 8. Children who speak another language at home can sit exams in it.
